The Local Box Limeup – Houston Local Box Meal Plan

Week-39---Houston-500

People are lime-ing up for this week’s super sweet Local Box! With lemons, limes, sweet potatoes, pears, and more, we have all the recipes to make dinner super easy. Enjoy this week’s Local Box meal plan!

something sweet: This Pear Croustade with Lemon Pastry and Almonds dessert tastes just as great as it looks. The brightness of the lemon really elevates the flavor of the pear, and the nutmeg is just right (though I bet cardamom would also be excellent). The crust is easy, so flavorful, and pretty, especially with almonds.

something “spicy”: This recipe for Five Spice Caramel Asian Pears with Toasted Sesame Seeds doesn’t pack any spicy heat, but it is full of spice! Five spice is a popular Chinese spice blend consisting of Szechuan peppercorns, star anise, cloves, cinnamon, and fennel seeds. A little goes a long way, so use it sparingly. Asian pears and five spice powder pair perfectly with toasted sesame seeds in this recipe and is a twist on a seasonal favorite. We all love Caramel Apples, why not Asian Pears?

something sweet ‘n spicy: Break out the mason jars for the Sweet and Spicy Wickled Okra. I’m not familiar with Wickles Pickles but these okra bites can’t be beat. Pickled okra man seem ambitious but the best part of this recipe is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Add your favorite flavors!

something salty: Reviewers swear by this “Southwestern Salty Sweet Potatoes to Cry For!” recipe and I can see why. Call these the all-local Pringles because once you pop one of these guys in your mouth, you won’t be able to stop. Roast them for just a little longer than 20 minutes to get those perfect crispy edges.
